THE SEWA MOVEMENT
The SEWA MOVEMENT was started by Shri Shri Arvind Mohan Nagar (gurushri) about a decade back in western India. Today it has 213 centres in India and abroad.
GURUSHRI does not claim to be a seer. Neither does he seek fame, followers, or money. “I am just trying to be a better human being; what I say is not new. I just repeat the commands of PARMATMA so that people will remember and practice them.”
The lives and teachings of Spiritual Souls are the model for his work. He continually reminds people of the enlightened teachings of all prophets.
Sectarian divisions have been created by humans, not by GOD or God’s messengers. The only way to inch closer to the Creator is through service. Hence his work stresses on SarvatmSeva, in service of every soul.
Rooted in the puranic traditions of Indian spiritual philosophy and the universal teachings of seers, saints (buzurg), the SEWA (service) principle of Sewadham is based on the existence of one substance and only one being, the Advaita philosophy of nonduality, which holds that there is only one substance and only one being.
The word “Advaita” essentially refers to the identity of the SELF (atman-soul) and the WHOLE (Brahman-God).
SEWADHAM literally means the abode of service or the seat of service. Etymologically, the word Dham is derived from the root “dham,” meaning “to uphold” or “to support”. The commentary further explains that it is that which upholds or supports the concept of service (seva or sewa) |
