COMMUNITY SERVICES
Our community services are performed for the benefit of the local community, namesake humanity. Volunteers become involved in Sewadham's community service activities for serving the community. The organisation, along with its groups of volunteers commit to perform service as a gesture to the larger community, as part of service economics.
Service (SEWA) provides for the needs of those who have no current means with which to reciprocate. For example, if some in a society are so poor as to have nothing material to barter and no goods or money to bring to market, they can still receive charity if sufficient resources exist.
Similarly, in the vast majority of societies, parents support their children at least in early childhood (and, in some societies, into adolescence and adulthood) without any explicit negotiation of what is expected in exchange.
We strongly beleive that variations on a service economy (SEWA) is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Typically, the service economy as promoted by Sewadham, occurs in a culture which emphasises social or intangible rewards for generosity: karma, SEWA, loyalty or other forms of gratitude to the Supreme Soul, the Paramatma. The activities of Sewadham are shorn from any form of reciprocal altruism. Giving is done without implicit expectation of reciprocation.
• Provide financial assistance, groceries and clothing to individuals and families in need.
• Assist individuals with information about community resources.
• Family support for homeless families at SEWADHAM out reach program.
